Florida GOP Debate
24 01 2008After a larger response than I thought I would get, I’m putting this disclaimer here. This was going to be just a bunch of silly semi-out-of-context quotes from tonight’s debate. Then I heard the bit at the end of this post, and put it here as a record to have for later. I determined that it was too short of a thing to stand on it’s own and I didn’t really analyze or put much thought to it, other than that it occurred and that I would just pose a question that hopefully someone would have an answer to. So, instructions are this: read the first part for some cheap laughs, then read the end and let me know the answer if you have any insight. Thanks!
I watched the whole debate and these people actually said these incredibly stupid things:
Mike Huckabee - “Just because we didn’t find the weapons of mass destruction, that doesn’t mean they weren’t there.”
Mitt Romney - “I don’t care about the voters. I care more about the other guys on stage.”
Mike Huckabee - “I did hear what Chuck (Norris) said. I was standing with him, and I didn’t disagree with him, at the time, because I was standing next to him.”
John McCain (on the previous awesomeness) - “Now that Sylvester Stallone has endorsed me, I’m sending him over to take care of Chuck Norris right away. And I’m going to get him, too!”
Then there’s this gem:
Moderator: “Will you do for Social Security what Ronald Reagan did in 1983?”
Overheard on TV as a whisper: “(raise taxes)”
Mitt Romney: “I’m not going to raise taxes.”
WHO THE HELL IS TELLING ROMNEY WHAT TO SAY??!!

We need answers. If he is cheating, he must be held accountable.
If Romney is cheating, his campaign needs to be held accountable. He talks about the differences between himself and Hillary Clinton, yet he’s got someone possibly, not planting questions, but literally whispering into his ear. The media and his opponents need to investigate this and give us an answer!
It might help to post the quotes in context.
When Mitt said he did not care about the voters, it was in response to being asked how much money he had spent. He refused to answer and the moderator said the voters needed to know.
Mitt’s response was that he did not care about the voters. He did care, however, about giving his competitors the advantage in knowing his game plan.
While I am not a Mitt fan, what you posted was disingenuous.
Well, he does have to reveal how much he spent in a few days. The moderator was trying to get him to tell the voters a little early so they could make a choice when they go to the polls. If Mitt wanted to hold back that info as a competitive advantage, he could have just said that and that alone. The fact that he let slip the “I don’t care about the voters” line is rather telling, I happen to think.
No, actually he DID say that he had to reveal that info in a few days and would not do so a minute earlier than that. It was the moderator who pushed further, trying to corner Mitt by saying the voters should know.
I am not going to read more into the answer than was there just to stir the pot.
As to the rest of it. I don’t even see why the Huck/McCain stuff is even mentioned. They were having a light hearted, joking moment, over a stupid question from the moderator that was intended to do nothing more than put the candidates at each other’s throats like Hillary and Obama.
In fact, the only thing of any substance that was raised in the OP was whether or not Mitt had help in the questions.
And I am very curious as to who whispered ‘raise taxes’. I thought it was the same moderator who was caught with their mic on right before the first comeerical break. If I am wrong and that is coming from Romney’s camp, then action should be taken.
The rest of what is posted in the OP is just baiting.
Well, to be honest, I was just writing this post during the entire debate, listening to and writing down the silly things that were said. Then I heard the whisper thing and thought “WOW, did I really just hear that?!” So the DVR and I watched it about 10 times and yeah, it was there. I wrote it in the post so I’d have a record of it, but then posted it along with this, as I thought the whole thing was pretty short to stand on it’s own.
I’m actually considering writing more about this whisper thing, as it seems people are fairly interested in it. I DO agree though, if it was just the moderator passing hints, then I don’t really care too much, but if Mitt had a team off-stage somewhere researching and whispering in his ear with a headpiece or something, then we have a major problem.
I’m sorry… I should not be such a hardass to you. If your post was meant to be satirical then I came down to hard.
It is just that this is probably one of the most important elections in this country’s history… certainly the most important of my lifetime which spans more than half a century.
It just pisses me off that the Main Stream Media and supposed ‘news’ outlets reduce everything into a 15 second sound bite and turn everything personal. I am looking at issues and getting fluff. The moderators tonight were shameful. They asked fluff questions and did everything they could to try to incite bad feelings while ignoring important stuff.
Sorry, I should not have taken it out on you.
I will search around the internet and see if I can come up with more info on ‘the whisper’.
Peace
