Testing Windows Live Writer

14 11 2006

Windows Live Writer Beta is out, and it’s kind of interesting. I’m using it to write this post. It’s got some nice preview features that other blog editing software I’ve used doesn’t have, but it still has a long way to go before it’s ready for mass consumption. I’m not sure what it is, but there is something about it I don’t like… probably the fact that I feel like I’m using Frontpage.

It looks like integrates with all the major blog software out there, including WordPress (obviously). I suppose that this would be a really nice piece of software for people who don’t know any sort of html and want to have a blog. Get it at http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/ (that link was automatically converted as I pasted the address in here, but it doesn’t let me even use html tags in the Web Layout view…)

In related news, I’m looking for a desktop blogging application so I don’t have to log in to the site all the time to write a post.  I like separate applications, because I feel like I write more in them rather than on a form on webpage. Additionally, they provide other functionality like spell checking, although with Firefox 2.0 and its built in spell checker, that isn’t such a big selling point anymore. If anyone knows of a good desktop blogging application that isn’t annoying and provides a decent set of features and is also WordPress compatible, please let me know.

New route to work

13 11 2006

I think I’ve found a new route to work that I can take on my bike. It looks to be mostly flat with only one long hill that is downhill on the way in. You can see my new route here thanks to the amazing implementation of the google maps api at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/

Photo Sharing at Zooomr

1 11 2006

In keeping with my recent trend of dumping all my hosting off on others :-), I’m going to start hosting my photos on Zooomr I know everyone will say “Why not just use Flickr like everyone else?”, but that will be a stupid question. Check out Zoomr to see why they are awesome. Also read this Tech Crunch article about Zooomr.

EDIT: I’m playing with lightbox
