Oh, great

You Passed 8th Grade Math

Congratulations, you got 10/10 correct!

I would hope you could still pass 8th grade math, jeeze. Maybe if you were in 6th grade or something this would be a big accomplishment.

Here’s some other goofy blog crap that everyone else puts up. This will be the only time I do this. …Unless something really clever comes along… ;)

You Are Somewhat Machiavellian

You’re not going to mow over everyone to get ahead…
But you’re also powerful enough to make things happen for yourself.
You understand how the world works, even when it’s an ugly place.
You just don’t get ugly yourself - unless you have to!
Your Birthdate: December 14

With a birthday on the 14th of the month (5 energy) you are inclined to work well with people and enjoy them.
You are talented and versatile, very good at presenting ideas, and you are also very good at organization and systematizing.
You may have a tendency to get itchy feet at times and need change and travel.

You tend to be very progressive, imaginative and adaptable.
Your mind is quick, clever and analytical.
A restlessness in your nature may make you a bit impatient and easily bored with routine, and rebel against it.
You have a tendency to shirk responsibility.

You Are Apple Cider

Smooth and comforting. But downright nasty when cold.

Ok that’s enough. These things are usually pretty annoying, so I won’t make you look at anymore. Like anybody actually reads this stuff.

Really dead laptop

26 10 2005

I fired up my old laptop last night to get some files off of it, and found out just how dead it really is. Apparently, the keyboard and touchpad no longer work either. I could plug a USB mouse in and pull files off to a USB drive, but it looks like the PS/2 bus is dead too. If anybody wants a small desktop computer, let me know. You could plug in a USB keyboard and mouse, use the internal ethernet adaptor (I hope), and run the display to a monitor if you wanted and the machine would work fine.

Visit to Findlay Market

16 10 2005

I went down to Findlay Market today to check it out. It was really pretty neat. A lot of stuff was closed because it was Sunday, but the stuff that was open was really neat. I hit up Kroeger & Sons Sausage for some hot mettwurst, pepper bacon, and smoked pork chops. Their selection was awesome.

After getting the tastiest iced mocha ever from Tara’s Coffee, I found the mustard king and got a jar of Zydeco mustard. It’s basically spicy mustard with cayenne and other peppers in it. A free sample sold me instantly. I kind of wanted to stay and listen to the live music, but I needed to get home and get the meat in the freezer before it spoiled. I’ll definitely have to go back on a Saturday sometime when everything is open. They have free WiFi access everywhere over there, so maybe I’ll take my laptop down, and just hang out for a few hours.

New laptop

14 10 2005

Hey, I got a new laptop! The PCMCIA slot on my old one died on Wednesday, leaving me unable to access the internet. Luckily, I had a programming project and a senior design progress report due the next day. So time for an emergency run to Best Buy.

Normally I really hate going to the computer section of Best Buy because the retarded chimpanzees they get to staff that department don’t know their asshole from an RJ-45 connector. That and the vulture-like way they descend from everywhere and try to sell you a cell phone when all you want is a spindle of CDs. Not to mention the maintenance plan they push on those CDs (WTF?!) This visit was different, however. I had trouble actually flagging down someone to open the laptop case for me. Isn’t that how it always works? You want to be left alone, and they crawl out of the woodwork; you actually need some help and they scurry away like cockroaches when the come lights on.

Actually, this visit wasn’t all that bad. I had been researching laptops for the past couple of weeks, so I knew pretty much what I wanted, and I was informed of which laptop had which features. The computer department flunkie did his job well, answering specifics about which battery the machine came with, warantee information, etc. I mean, I could have read it off the box if they weren’t locked up, but this guy was pretty well informed. I got the one Best Buy employee who actually knew something about computers! For all my bad luck with my first machine breaking, at least this forced Best Buy wallet rape wasn’t going to be a typical “Pretend to be dumb, so they give the standard speech then go away” frontal lobotomy type of purchase.

Anyway, I got a Compaq Presario v2000 series laptop. It’s only like 1/8″ thicker than a Powerbook. It also has the new AMD Turion 64 mobile processor and integrated 802.11g wireless networking. This is also my first DVD burner. So far, the thing is a champ. I just need to get around the brain dead configuration that HP and Best Buy did to the thing to make it “safe”. Their silly lockdown options are really crippling Visual Studio.NET and making it impossible to develop. I just need to spend some time fixing what HP and Best Buy think they’ve “fixed”.

Back in the saddle again

10 10 2005

On Saturday I rode my bike for the first time since I crashed. Wow. 2 months away from it and I am really out of shape. I rode up to campus and went to the bike shop to buy a lock. I’ve never really needed one before, but I’d like to ride my bike down to Findlay Market on the weekends and shop, and to the grocery store and other places. Seeing as how I live in Over the Rhine, my bike wouldn’t be mine for very long if I left it unlocked. I got a MasterLock something. Really, it’s just a 4ft length of big ass hardened steel chain wrapped in nylon with a lock at the ends. It should work great for me. U-Locks are probably better, but this wraps up on the bike nicely and provides quite a bit of security. OTR/Clifton is rough, but it’s not like New York City where everyone will steal your bike. Plus the bike will really never sit outside all day, locked up and out of sight.

After getting the lock, I rode over to Jimmy Johns and grabbed some lunch. It’s been at least 2 years since I’ve had Jimmy Johns. Oh man was it good. After lunch, I rode back home. Due to poor planning there is no easy way back to my apartment from anywhere. Every road there involves a super steep climb. Even if I was in great shape the hills back home would be hard to climb, so I had to walk up the last hill. Maybe someday I’ll be able to ride up the cliff of Mt. Auburn/Prospect Hill.

Holy Crap

9 10 2005

That was a nutso party. I just now woke up and it’s like 1:30 pm. Way too much was drunk last night, but at least the chili was good. Wow, i haven’t partied like that in a while.

Sticking with blogger

7 10 2005

The more I explore the features of blogger the more I like it. I’m going to stick with blogger and leave drupal behind. It was nice, but like I said before, it was way more than I need.

I didn’t really post here very much in the past , but over the course of the next year, I will blog about the progress of my senior design project. I’m still trying to think of a project, but I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I want to do. I need to talk with my advisor about it to find out if it is too large, or not large enough. More updates as I get ‘em.

I am posting from an email client. If this works, blogger gains another point on the good side.
